Rangers Sneak Past Orioles, 3-2 Memorial Stadium 1976-1991 was the site of the home opener for the Baltimore Orioles. The contest featured a prime matchup between Gaylord Perry of the visiting Texas Rangers and Jim Palmer of the Orioles. The final score was 3-2, the Rangers getting the win. Gaylord Perry turned in the best performance. John Ellis, the 28-year old catcher , had a direct impact on the outcome. Ellis contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the tenth inning to put Texas up, 3-2. "We battled our tails off to get this win," said Texas manager Frank Lucchesi.
